I have attached two pictures of separate 1987D dimes for a comparison of mint mark location. The one on the left, the "D" is higher up very far away from the number 7. But the coin on the right, the D is exactly on top of the seven. Can someone please tell me if I have a misplaced mint mark? And, if yes, which coin is the mistake?

It is a little lower than usual. Mint mark positions varied, since they used to be punched in by hand until 1990. No premium for it, but it's a cool oddity.

Thanks... I'm pretty good at finding cool oddities, even if they have no added value. I noticed the coin on the right is a bit off center, if that's the right term. It is missing most of its right rim. But I think it would be unlikely to make the D shift closer to the date.

The coin on the right has a minor Misaligned Die (MAD).

yep, a manually placed MM was the norm before 1990. any place above the date and below the neck is acceptable.

Both are slightly MAD. Not enough to matter.

Pending the reverse die strike/alignment is centered. Thanks, Doug.
