No, they are in circulation in Quebec, but only in Quebec. If live in another province you have to buy the $45 roll from the mint, or from ebay, or another source.

I hate it when mints do this, they know that collectors want to get their hands on things. It is like with the Monaco, Vatican and San Marino euro coins, they could easily have made enough for everyone, but they push up the prices and make it hard to get for people, annoying.

I just visited my local Metro and asked the cashier for some Canadian's loonies. She you can have as many as you want, so I bought a roll of 25.

The roll I got was not a RCM roll with the familar red bands at the ends, but with a shrink wrap plastic covering. The RCM is essentially charging $19.95 extra for their custom wrapping.

Andre, what kind of rolls did you get ? RCM or plastic shrink wrap ?

I got the same as you my friend the plastic roll.
Why pay more when you get the same coins and for only $ 25.00

Andre1621, I'm curious as to where you're obtaining your information about mintages for this coin. There are 10000 rolls with the "special wrapping" alone (or 250000 singles), not counting those being put into circulation at Metro stores.

Like they say your better serve at IGA,i got this info from a Metro manager.
So if the mint got 10,000 rolls a good guess would be that Metro stores got the same quatity of roll so this would make over 500,000 coins.

Yeah, I have a feeling the mintage on this coin will be a lot higher than some seem to think.

New from the mint:

The Mint has produced 10 million of these coins and I am pleased to inform you that the Mint has placed 2.5 million of these commemorative one-dollar coins into general circulation, in addition to distributing a large quantity through Quebec-based Metro grocery stores as of March 11, 2009. Please note that the mintage of this coin was driven by the need to carefully evaluate the number of circulation coins the Mint can produce on an annual basis, in order to prevent oversupplying the market. When dealing with high-value denominations such as one- and two-dollar coins, the market's ability to absorb new coins is understandably limited.
