Nice coin with unique toning on both sides. Appears to not have any silver colored clad rings on edge.

Just not sure, what do y'all think?

nice looking quarter. can you post up an image of the edge too?
what is the weight of this coin?
It could be a missing clad quarter.

Could be missing clad but also could just be surface staining. The weight could help confirm which one.

to the CCF!

I'm thinking it's environmental damage. I can see areas that look silvery on both sides and it just doesn't look like copper to me. I also feel that if this coin were struck on a copper planchet It would have stood out like a sore thumb when struck and most likely been removed at the mint, or by the first person that saw it in circulation.

The chance that this is struck on a thick rolled copper planchet are very, very small. It could happen, but I don't think that's what we see here.

The weight and an image of the edge may help in determining if the coin is damaged or an error. I'll eat some popcorn and wait for any additional information you can provide.

I've sometimes found that metal-detected cupro-nickel coins turn this pinkish colour when I try to clean them to put them back into circulation.

Enviromental damage (acidic)
What would an all copper planchet be doing inside the mint in that year?

Planchets can be struck from the copper core when the clad layers are not long enough to finish the roll. The metal is still rolled to the proper thickness, but is missing the cladding.

Been Cooper Cu thick roll yes it is possible but after pas the Clad rolling machine is not anymore thick.

The color of this coin has nothing to do with the normal Cu core use by the Mint. The Cu use by Us Mint and overall in the word it is the same with variations in alloy. This kind will never be pink.
