So looking at the PCGS website, they don't seem to offer prices for stuff below MS60. Indicating to me, based on the MS60 prices, that stuff below that ain't worth much. However as I search various coin websites, there are some PCGS AU coins that seems to command a premium price. So,,, I gues the PCGS matrices are just a guide and one never knows what an auction may bring or a buyer may pay? :)

Yes, they are just a guide. There are a lot of rare coins with extremely low grades that command a high premium (such as the 1909-S VDB, or the 1914-D)

I keep hearing about "The Grey Sheet". Is that a dealers only resource?

The Grey Sheet is available to anyone willing to pay for a subscription. The Grey Sheet is a primary resource for many dealers to set prices for heir coin sales - and you can use it for the same purpose for purchasing your coins.

The Grey Sheet has 2 prices for each listing; 'Bid' and 'Ask'

Bid is the wholesale price a dealer would generally sell a coin to another dealer. If you were to approach a dealer to purchase your coins he/she will generally offer '10 back of Bid', with is 90% of the Bid price. This leave him/her with room to flip the coin to another dealer if desired.

Ask is the retail price for a coin. It's what you would generally pay to purchase a coin from a dealer.

Of course - all of this is general pricing guideline and other factors such as strike, eye appeal, toning etc come into play that can't be reflected in a price guide.

That said - knowing the Grey Sheet Bid/Ask for any coin you are interested at least keeps you in the ballpark.

How's does one subscribe to the Grey Sheet? Not saying I will, just curious who produces it.
