I am looking for opinions on whether or not this may indicate an experimental rinse on the 2000 P Sac $1. I would normally not be interested in taking a chance on this type of error but the fact that they appear and are labeled uncirculated and side by side with normal looking Sac $1's prompted me go for it. They were under $5 each so the price was reasonable. I'll post better photos hopefully, when I get it "in hand".

Here is some background info - https://www.coincommunity.com/go/li.../add002.html

Very well may be the experimental rinse. I have seen them turn chocolate brown.

From smalldollars.com:
Approximately ten 2000-P dated Experimental Rinse Sacagawea dollars are known to exist. It is unlikely that the experiment was conducted in both 2000 and 2001. So how did it come to be that these pieces exist in both years? While not definitive, one explanation is as follows. The actual experiment was conducted in late 2000. The planchets were dumped into hoppers. One hopper, with a very few experimental planchets, was used to strike 2000 dated coins. Another hopper, with the vast majority of experimental planchets, was later used to strike 2001 dated coins.

Well, for a 2000-p, 2001-p or 2006-d In an attempt to prevent tarnishing, small numbers of Sacagawea dollars were immersed in a chemical bath that turned them a distinctive brown color that seems to possibly match your coin. The 2000-P Sacagawea dollar pictured in this link was exposed to an experimental anti-tarnishing agent. https://www.error-ref.com/experimen...awea_dollar/

Otherwise in general for similar coins that are not that, maybe toning or chemical alteration https://www.PCGS.com/news/color-of-...deeper-tones

Essentially there are apparently 2,500 of the 2001-p but about 10 are also known on 2000-p. PCGS recognizes the 2001p and ANACS does, and places like great collections will both generally grade and then auction the coin and you can email them in advance before sending. However here we are just speculating that because these exist there is always a possibility of being one so worth to look into with people who have the knowledge to identify yes or no as I have never seen one of those yet in person, but normally otherwise its just some form of toning or chemical alteration.
