Attaching photo of two 1907 Indian cents. One on left is clearly larger and weighs 3.44 grams. Could it be on a foreign planchet? Thanks for the help.

@cni, I wonder if it isn't encased. Can you please add a picture of the edge, especially if you see a region that looks "torn" or different? That encasement might also be attracted to a magnet.

@spence you are exactly right. I never considered that, but after examining it further I find that is encased. Thanks and I feel a little silly for not recognizing that.

Hey don't stress at all about not noticing that this coin was encased. This is a pretty common question that we see here on CCF so this practice must have been hugely popular at some point. I've seen many dimes with an artificial rim attached. It helped them "make weight" for innumerable coin operated machines of the past. Heavily worn dimes would not operate the machines because they were too thin or small in diameter. I imagine some people shaved rims for silver and added base metal rims as well.
