It looks like it might be the bronze core of a contemporary counterfeit (silver-plated) rupee from India, Mughal period. It had to be in a corrosive environment to remove the silver plating. Maybe traces of silver plating remaining near top on both sides.
If it has traces of gold plating, then it was probably a counterfeit gold Mohur of the Mughal period. There are some similarities in the writing to coins of Aurangzeb, but I can't say anything more definite about what coin it was imitating. Maybe one of our experts on Indian coins will be able to identify the coin imitated.
