Old cleaning, says the seller. I've always had a soft spot for this particular year - had one back in the day, but gone now. Looks AU to me. What's the consensus? Edited by Blastenpene4 07/12/2023 5:52 pm

I'll say EF-40, agree old cleaning, probably market acceptable now.

Agree with Coinfrog, nice looking Seated quarter with A & R. Got some good looking obverse cracks at both sides of the arrows. Hope the price is right! Go for it.

I'm surprised at EF40. Hardly any wear on wingtips or claws. Light wear on right breast and thigh. Clean fields. I'm thinking solid EF45 at least. What am I missing?

I'll answer my own question. Just went through a bunch of slabbed 1853 arrows and rays coin auction results - looks like EF40 is pretty much right after all, but it's a bit on the high side of 40. Seeing slabbed EF40 coins at auction in the $185 to $235 range and this is raw with an old cleaning. I'm bidding, but doubt I'll get it - just doesn't make sense to pay too high for it.

EF40, cleaned, nice cracks. Personally, I don't like the uneven wear distribution on the obverse.

Pretty sure this one is Obv. 2 Rev. B and I grade it a nice EF40. Old cleaning, slightly soft strike on one side and the dark streaking stains are holding it back I'd say.

Yeah, that upper left obverse / lower left reverse is soft, not wear. I like the coin, but don't want to overpay for it. Guess we'll see.

top end XF40 coin. I'm fairly certain they will details the coin. I also love the design this year with the rays

Pass for me, high chance it will sell for an inflated price.

I'm in, but they'll blow past me. If I get it at my bid, that's fine - if not, there are others. Sure do like this year, though, for quarters and halves.

Nice coin, but it has issues for sure. Personally, I don't care for it.
