Obv has die chip where nose meets upper lip. Rev has a wave pattern that runs the length of her left arm. Is that from polishing?

I see evidence of a Ring of Death running through the tops of dollar and dr. Also massive Die Deterioration on the bottom reverse lettering. I guess the first question is, what is the coin supposed to look like?

@rain, have you looked at an overlay? I wonder if you aren't seeing evidence of a die clash from George's hair on the rev.

@spence and brand - I will get a better close up of the area. I just realized my pics do not show the smallest detail of the suspected clash/trails. It almost looks like faint lathe lines.

Brand, that's not a Ridge Ring, it's the circle of death.

Ring of Death for certain. very clear ones on the Earth and the other one on the ribbon thingy below the F and A (Of America), then Bad Ring of Death from the U in united, going CCW all the way to the R of Dr.

Yes Brand, they are the same, however introducing new terminology for the same thing can get troublesome, notice hot Ring of Death is also a hot link that will take you to a place where you can read up on it, and circle of death does not. And of course a Ridge Ring is something completely different.

Um, right. So again, I am the one who used the term Ring of Death, which results in the embedded link to the correct explanation. If you wish to dispute the term circle of death, take it up with Cujohn, who is the one who used that term.

Interesting! I don't think it's a clash, as there's nothing in that area to cause clash marks that would match. Here's a Clash Overlay of the full coin so you can see where clash marks would be expected. Click on the picture for a larger image

@ Yokozuna Thanks for the over lay
Before posting this design berm, trails, and design creep came to mind.
Berm - seemed the least likely due to appearance
Trails - seemed most likely until I magnified then I saw that each trial has ridges perpendicular to the trails direction
Design creep - with a design this busy maybe it presents differently but I feel like the peripheral letters would have to be at least approaching the rim
So if they are trails due to DD, what causes the ridges/hatched appearance?
