Hi again, I happened to notice that the 4th pearl on the front of the King's crown is missing the front half. I thought it might have been PMD from a knock, until I found the second one. Looking online there are a few out there with the same error, although there seems to be varying stages to it. Is this a known error for 1917's?
I can't find anything in Renniks or online referring to it

As always, your replies are appreciated

Cheers

Obvious when pointed out.
I am inclined to think that it is not PMD, instead
debris or Grease Filled Die.

Would need to be hand held, viewed under more than 10X magnification to confirm, either way.

It does not appear to be damage to the coin.

Thanks AC. I was surprised at first to find two 1917's in not so good shape with seemingly no error or variety issues. My father had a keen eye for error coins back in the day but he rarely kept written details.

Now I need to go back over some other coins he kept that also had no glaring issues, maybe I'll find some more sleepers.

Sel_691, yes agreed, the fourth pearl on each has not been damaged, quite remarkable considering the rest of each coin has been!
I think it may be a common error either not noticed, or not considered significant enough to mention previously.

There are a few pics on ebay that also have the same issue.

Thanks for the input
