Wondering what people's thoughts are on this one. There are some strong patches of pretty bright copper color that are making me think either an annealing error or an improper alloy mix is possible, but I could also be convinced it's just environmental damage. Right now I'm leaning towards an error because the distributions of the copper patches looks more like the distribution of metal in an alloy than the way that a foreign substance would have made contact with a coin and because the copper colored areas do still have some brightness, but I find planchet errors like this very hard to diagnose.

The blotchy, uneven coverage and the irregular margins strongly suggests that these copper-colored areas represent stains or a surface residue.

Sam, see if it passes the acetone test before liberating it.

@Hondo acetone wouldn't affect most environmental damage, so wouldn't prove much. I decided to just toss it back since I already was pretty close to 50/50 on damage to begin with, and Mike Diamond weighing in is enough for me to listen to that instinct for sure. I was hopeful because the copper colored areas were brighter than most damage I've seen, but sadly seems to just be a spender. Planchet errors are hard. Annealing and alloy mixing errors in particular can just look so much (to my eye) like environmental damage that I'm always iffy on where the line is.
