Hello everyone, I am fairly novice with american gold coins (I typically buy a half ounce when I'm in the u.s.) but I am in the U.S. for a few weeks and sold some stuff To buy into a few gold ounces. One is beautiful with absolutely nothing wrong with it. But I bought this one at a few % points less .. at a very agreeable price over spot. Am I being OCD over this? Or are these bag/tube marks ok? It doesn't impact my feelings toward it just curious how common this is... Seeing the bullion dealer handle these I can imagine many have marks .... Thanks! *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Roma

That's definitely a bag mark on your coin.

Besides the loss of some eye appeal, any negative impact on the coin ?

It would grade slightly lower, but that's it.

Thanks @errers. The dealer had some back date AGEs and they showed much more handling wear. Given the lower premium I paid I was happy with this one... Just needed a little reassurance from the forum haha

The Reed Marks are a bit distracting on the field, But Bullion coins are handled quite differently than proofs and uncirculated ones.

I agree @dearborn. I bought two ounces on a part sale and part trade. I'm learning u.s. bullion buying.
I mentioned above that it was offered at a lower price over spot and I imagine will sell back at a lower price? Or is it not distracting enough?

Roma2021, Sounds like You made a Sweet Deal... Dearborn Stated, " The Reed Marks are a bit distracting on the field, But Bullion coins are handled quite differently than proofs and uncirculated ones. " ! And Reed Marks from Another Reeded Bullion Coin, They Are.... OUCH...... You will Not find This, on the Mint Marked U S Minted Coins, as Stated, They are Handled in a Complete Differing Manner. They do NOT Touch Another Coin. Your Deal sounds like the Marks, were Considered and the Price, Sealed the Deal, Congrats, !!!! May I ask, IF Your concerns are You MIGHT buy the UNCIRCULATED West Point Mint Marked Versions, ..... That Deal will Not be found with Them, Best Wishes..............................

Thanks @morgans.
I am not too concerned with proof gold coins. Like I said I am novice at buying american bullion coins in the u.s. so I was more or less trying to buy at the lowest premium. This was my practice run and I wanted to know how I did ... The blemish on this coin vs price, etc
Thanks for your reply.

hey, gold is gold, and the price will go up as time passes, so, if you can buy an AGE at spot + take it - a great deal.

Thank you all for replying.
I posted to assess how I did buying a coin at a slightly higher premium and contrasting it with a coin at a lower premium with a ding.
I know it all depends on the market but I feel the ding doesn't distract enough to negate the premium discount. So I am happy with it.
Thanks again!
