Interesting... I'm not sure, perhaps due to die and hub chatter? ... per kbbpll's comment on this topic http://goccf.com/t/450234)Quote:
It may be worth pointing out that since 1999, all coin dies have been produced by single-squeeze hubbing, so traditional doubled dies no longer exist since then. It did introduce another problem, where the die and hub sort of chatter during the single press, but as far as I recall that sort of doubling only appears near the center of coins.

Single squeeze hubbing reduced many categories of doubled dies. However, VIII Tilted Hub are still possible. Hubbing reset doubles are also possible and seem to happen. There are many examples on this very forum of such coins. Class IX pop and twist doubles are discussed by CONECA for single squeeze.
As for this particular coin, I am having a hard time making out the details. I think it's a microscope image? Maybe the settings and lighting could be adjusted to show the feature more clearly.

Well, I checked NGC and Wexler, no listings for a Delaware reverse doubled die. The lines have a Machine Doubling quality to them, but it seems unusual that both are moving towards the center. This seems more likely to be some DDD, but it's hard to see. I think you need to rotate the coin 90 degrees relative to the light source, so the front edge of the back leg has no shadows.

I do not think it is DDR. I go more as an DDD. Here I put 3 photos of MS-67 I have. First show a perfect design and second and third evolution of DDD What you think?

Silviosi, one of the questions I have is about DDD directionality. Almost all published examples show rimward deterioration doubling. The rest show doubling where the devices are chewed down in all directions. For example, nickels from the 1960s seem to show withered devices with doubling halos. Can surface Die Deterioration also happen in a way where the ghosts move uniformly towards the center from all directions?

Different years and presses has different repartition of the forces. Here we have a modern Quarter on horizontal presses. The Die will deteriorate more on the weaker sides there where less opposition is. I discuss about the repartition of the forces and the reflection stress on the Die. What you example me here it is complete another beast. 1960, Nickel, vertical press and relative uniform design. So the forces will dissipate from center to the sides and the Die Deterioration will be more active near the Rims. About this topic I think more debated and physical simulations must be done if we want really to has the perfect answer. For the older designs I never had an Die to be able to analize the internal stress and the movement of the material flow and measure the repartition of the forces. For the New Quarters I have two Dies and we was able to see how it is work and why the actual Dies never go more then 100K strikes.

You can take more pics if you want, but I can tell you it is an DDD. I saw many samples of.
