I came across this today in a bag of quarters and I'm guessing that it is a case of misaligned dies, but it is pretty extreme so I thought I should check with the fine folks here at CCF. I would appreciate your opinions on the coin, thank you!

Yep, a nice major Misaligned Die. Nice find! What does the edge look like?

Really nice MAD. They get rarer the larger the coin is: pretty darn uncommon that far off on quarters!

On second look, did this quarter get struck twice, one in the collar and one out of it? (an offset broadstrike?) I see collar marks too far in from the edge of the coin.

Isn't that a collar clash as well from roughly K3 to K6 on the original proto rim?

A shot of the edge/reeding in that area would be great to see.

Great error and a fantastic find! One of my favorite error types. I've seen a coin that was 40% misaligned, but it was years ago. I even have the term on my 'Watch List' at Heritage auctions.

Here's a Jefferson nickel that was struck with 4% misaligned obverse die that I posted not too long ago. http://goccf.com/t/433666
