I picked this coin up a while back and recently sent it to PCGS with a bunch of ICG for cross over.

This one was denied for questionable coloring. I know nothing about the 'techniques' one would use to artificially color/tone a coin. Frankly I do not understand WHY anyone would want to do that.

Trying to decide whether to unload this coin or maybe try it again at PCGS... or maybe unholder it and try it. I scooped it to upgrade my MS66 I already had...

Wondering if the coloring looked off to others?

Looks questionable to me as well. You might try dipping it.

The main reason AT toning is done on coins is to increase value and hide scratches. I would not resend the coin to PCGS for crossover or crack it out. Unlikely that PCGS is going to grade the coin at MS67. The coin is a common date if you do not like it sell the coin, and get one you do like. There is nothing attractive about the toning. The shade of brown looks a little strange, but I would not call it AT. The TPG's grade toning on what is market acceptable and it has less and less today about what is actually NT or AT.

I agree that you should NOT crack this out but sell it as is. The fourth photo showing the slab gives me a much different opinion about the toning than the first two. What looks like puffy little clouds to the left of liberty does not look natural. Brown is also covering the fields so you really don't see the luster. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

I agree with the others here, If you are unhappy with it sell it "as-is" and shop for one that get your attention better.

MS67 is a joke. But the toning is real.
