Korean-Coins-In-The-Market

I was surprised at the price for a Five-Won Gold coin from the Korean Empire era (1908), even though this auction happened back in 2016 in Korea. The equivalent of $144,700 USD (in 2016 USD) is really impressive for a Korean collector coin, I thought.

That is, until I saw this one:

A 20-Won Gold of this same series sold for $632,500 USD in NGC MS-64 (Norman Jacobs Collection) in 2011 at Heritage.

I had no idea that Korean coins have sold for so high... Guess I wasn't paying attention to these older coins.

But I've noticed that you don't see big coins like this at auction in Korea anymore, though.

As I said here, we expect that in the near future the price of Asian coins will only grow. People in Japan, South Korea, China and a number of other Asian countries are getting rich and starting to buy coins of their country. Since these are countries with a high level of population and a low circulation of coins, the price for them is growing every year. Maybe we should buy a couple of coins to earn our% from sales in the future?

I want to start buying Chinese coins, but I really don't understand anything about it and I don't know Chinese.

Some of the Korean coins in particular the 1886 patterns are very rare. I believe they were made in Germany if not guided by German mintmasters.

The Russian influenced Korean coins are quite scarce too.

This is an example

To complete a nickel copper coin set of the Korean Empire can be a real challenge! I've been looking for them for over a decade if not closer to two.

Still missing three 5 fun too...
