If it was a low-pressure strike, why is one side fully struck

John1 Which image are you referring to? Neither side is fully struck just slightly in the center. The Montana coin is just for size reference.

Ah,I see now. A weight and diameter might be useful for the pros.

Don't touch the fields of the coin with your fingers! Only hold valuable coins by the edges and with clean hands. I'm unsure on whether this is a low pressure strike or a massive bifacial Struck Through Grease error. As I understand, a low pressure strike shouldn't have clearly defined rims as this coin clearly does, though the lack of reeding makes me think low pressure.

The defined rims in this case are from the upsetting mill.

Yeah, just the proto-rim from the planchet. Probably never had enough pressure on the strike to drive full reeds into the edge with the collar. Maybe if you examined it under a microscope, the coin edge would have some scrapes or light reed dents from just tapping the reeded collar during the low pressure strike.

I made a small table to compare the Weak Strike or Test coin and the Grease.

Interesting coin

As others have said, this is a very weak strike. The term "die adjustment strike" is misapplied to such errors, since multiple lines of evidence indicate that the vast majority occur spontaneously during a press run.

Thanks Mike, you clarify more then only this coin. The term "die adjustment strike" is what the TPG's offend attribute. So it is work to be done. Thanks again
