good question. sometimes its difficult to tell when there are light indicators of it occurring. I might have the same question based on the reverse. lighting here could be the issue on the reverse but imo it grades straight. good chance it was cleaned quite a while back and has retoned enough

All depends on the surfaces. Could possibly be some slight pitting. Tough coin.

I've been working on a circ set of the 1879-1891 half dollars. It is a tough battle, too!

Good luck! You got some nice coins there no matter how they grade!

Another tough date. Agree likely old cleaning, might be maket acceptable. Close to EF.

Solid VF-35. Possibly cleaned at some point, might get a straight grade now.

I'm hoping this one looks better in hand. Seems some of these dates have a mushy strike. I'll post pics when they arrive.

On the fence here too. Rare date. Not the best looking coin. I will likely keep it and keep my eye peeled for something better.

VF30 details, cleaned, obverse might have damage at shield and under S4, but this is rare enough to merit keeping regardless.
