Just wondering for all the coin experts out there, (this might be a dumb question) but does anyone know what makes a quarter turn this color? Likely post mint but if anyone has info on this and would like to share I'd really appreciate it :) In the photos, the coin looks like it has a blue ish hue but in person it looks like a dark rusty brown matte ish tone
Your coin is showing Environmental Damage, maybe it was buried in acidic soil or sat at the bottom of a pool. Whatever it was, it has damaged the surfaces leaving them dark and crusted. It's also showing some greenish corrosion which is commonly found on coins that have been lost in the dirt or maybe tossed in a fountain.
