Got this awhile ago, local coin dealer said its fake..something about detail on hands and feet..I don't see it...if it is fake it still weighs .900 oz..sounds like silver on drop test..what do you think? Die break?

I don't know of any reference book on US Trade dollars.
But there must be something out there.
The Greysheet prices a number of types (varieties?)

Sorry Jethro, but it looks fake to me too. Likely a cast counterfeit - mushy details on devices, the fields are grainy, and the denticles are horrible. It may actually be silver, but key date coins such as 1873-S Trade dollars are ripe for faking.
Compare yours to this 1873 that I pulled from ebay.

Counterfeit, perhaps contemporary? It is a pretty nice piece.

By the way, weigh your coins in grams and not standard ounces. Grams is the standard unit of measurement.
