I wonder if it could have been a train that did the damage here. I would think the heavy pressure of a 200-ton locomotive could cause the deep, well defined transfer of the Lincoln Memorial and then shot the coins out to the side. The movement when the coins dislodged could account for the grooved damage at K-8.
That's just one of thousands of possible causes for this damage, but I always like to use the clues to solve this kind of puzzle. Only the person that did this can tell us what really happened.
