I would like to hear some opinions on this bar. Real or fake?

The point tip of the maple leaf seems a lot closer to the edge on my example than others, the bottom bar that holds the serial number looks closer as well.

I don't know much about engelhard stuff at all, but I have been looking at examples on the All Engelhard site and trying to match it up.

https://allengelhard.com/definitive...arieties-usa

Thanks for any help!

Can you check the silver content with a Sigma Metalytics or other non-destructive method? Also is the weight exactly correct?

I don't have a sigma at home but I could get it checked in the next couple days at a lcs. It was a ebay purchase and the seller did show this bar on a sigma machine.

Weight - 32.2 grams, but that is in the plastic. I don't want to remove it from the plastic just yet.

Ok in general I'm not in favor of purchasing bullion via ebay but it sounds like you are being careful which is good. I'm definitely interested to hear what your LCS says. The bar should weigh 31.1 g but maybe there is a gram of packaging there.

HumblePie, here is the link to Engelhard's 1 oz bars. Scroll down about half way until you get the "portrait" style - the El-11? series.

yes, that is the site I was using to try and find a match. There are only 2 of the El-11"?" that have the reverse that is - blank with a border - my example does have a blank reverse with a border.

The 2 they have listed with a reverse blank/border, have a mintage of <750 and <25,000. The one with <750 mintage looks to have a much bigger font used on the serial number than my example. The one with <25,000 mintage looks to have a different maple leaf design, with the leaf point much further from the edge than my example.

I also checked out the counterfeits section and they had a copy of what looked to be the EI-11? series. The reverse on it was totally different than mine , but the maple leaf tip looked to be in a similar position as mine.

It tested fine.

My LCS said it looked to be an unlisted EI-11 example.
