Not sure what to do with this.. plan on sending it in to get graded on my next submission but I dont know how to safely remove the spot on and above the "o" in OF on the reverse and the one on the loop of the "p" in pluribus. The other proof has been stored same conditions and is still awesome. Will the PCGS restoration remove this? Thank you in advance for any ideas/suggestions.

Do not attempt to restore this. Contact PCGS with photos beforehand to inquire about whether this particular coin should be conserved.

Leave it as is. It's not that bad. Still a very nice looking coin.

I'm with the Frog, leave it as-is and ask PCGS about possible restoration if those spots bother you. To my eye it's not really that bad off.
Keep us posted on how the grading goes.

A nice example! Verdi-care should help, but if you are going to send it off I would defer to their conservation expertise.

Thank you.. its more of a preemptive care as opposed to the look. More or less worried about what it could turn into without a possible removal. Ive never tried Verdi-care. We have always stuck to pure acetone but I will look into it though. With the more valuables I get a bit nervous even taking them out of the cases#128518;

How do you know it's a proof? Looks like a regular business strike to me. Without the diagnostic markers, it's not a proof.
This would be a 5 minute or less conservation with VERDI-CARE™ using the spot treat method. The verdigris appears to be light and recent.

Well you are most likely correct since you sound like you know more as I don't know much about cents. It was labeled as proof and was handed down generations so I assumed it was correct due to the texture and squared rims. I've been getting into the cents more often as of late so I will check the markers when I get back into them.

Thanks for that proof question Thad, and the answer New. I saw curious about the same thing. I may have to see what I can find on the 1909 VDB proofs. (there were only 1,194 proofs minted, but 27,995,000 of the business strikes produced.) if this is indeed a proof, then wow.

When you get it graded (if you get it graded), I would not touch it and let the professionals do a restoration/conservation to it.

Quote: Can you start a new thread and show us the "other proof"? That'd be like winning the lotto three consecutive times. LOL 09 VDB's were all made on brand new hubs and dies, MANY people mistake the business strikes as proof coins due to their generally high quality.

I'm wondering about the diagnostics for this coin being a proof cent as well. Maybe this link will help. https://www.lincolncentcollection.c...eristics.phpThe person (Pat) that put this information together on Lincoln Cent proofs, in the link, deserves a lot of thanks and high praise. They put a lot of effort and knowledge for us to share. Hope this link helps you determine whether you have a proof Lincoln Cent. I sure hope it is.
