PCGS - There is only one known variety of the half eagle of 1796. And it's this one. The 6 on this 1796 Small Eagle was punched over a 5, leaving the earliest overdate in American coinage. Some 6,196 were minted, but in PCGS MS62+, this example is one of the finest known. What's your favorite overdate?

That's a spectacular coin!

My favorite overdate is the 1853/4 Seated Liberty quarter.

Very nice example.

We have a CCF expert contributor who recently published a book on the 'greatest' US overdate coins. It would be helpful if someone can post a link to that recent thread.

I think this one is my favorite overdate now. Easily seen on very rare, beautiful and valuable coin. Can't imagine anything better.
