Hi found this odd 1981 D penny that does weigh 2.5 grams. Very slick and all letters are extremely thick. Just a bad minted coin? Or ..

Thanks in advance for any insight

Looks heavily circulated to me, which could explain the lower than expected weight.

The fat letters are from the extreme wear.

Can you tell us the diameter? Is it larger than a normal cent?

I'm wondering if this is a Texas Cent made from an already circulated coin - smashed/squeezed to make it larger in diameter.
