Yeah, the first time I came across a 1974 large date under magnification, I immediately had that charge of finding a DDO. Mine also has a ferocious case of DD or MD which makes it look way more unique than it really is.

The '74 large date was such an unusual style choice, just for part of the year, and apparently never repeated again. To that point, I hadn't even realized that such a variety even existed. It's quite common, though. A little more than half of 1974 cents are the large date style.

One small addition to the above replies, which are excellent, is that the number 1 appears to have taken a small hit on the top. I don't think that this is doubling of any type but rather damage.

Spence, that's a good point. On my example, you can see that the top of the 1 extends slightly above the 9. That was a circulation hit, as you pointed out.
