Hi! I have this 1996 $50 bill. It caught my eye because it is one that is older. Any thoughts on if it's a keeper or spender? Any information at all will help.   |

Cool find, but a spender for me. It was printed in January 1999, it's the first series $50 with the large portrait and it looks to be in XF condition with a heavy center fold.

According to the book Paper Money of the united states, https://www.amazon.com/Paper-Money-.../0871845229/The 1996 series in uncirculated condition have a small premium I see (Say $75 for the $50 note as listed in the guide), but no values are listed for those in circulated other than star notes. Therefore it would suggest that unless its uncirculated its more of a spender at this time and also because its a $50 instead of a $1 for example where the cost to retain is low since over time some notes may start to hold value in high circulated conditions since its becoming less frequent to find these in circulation, but doesn't really seem worthwhile here. |

I just noticed a rectangle below the OP's name saying Topic Starter. Is this a new feature or have I just been asleep for last 10 years ?

Author tag was very recently added which is the OP, the person that started the thread which would be helpful in multi page posts. I thought 'author' would be confusing (as even mentioned by two regulars in that thread) so I suggested 'topic starter' and seems bobby and others liked that so thats what it is at the moment. http://goccf.com/t/451574 |

It's a spender. The grade of the note is Very Fine. There are several vertical folds and a horizontal fold.
