Can A Proof 1964 Have SMS Die Markers?

Tjames88 Valued Member Canada 196 Posts	Posted 08/23/2023 2:21 pm I have a coin graded as a proof but all the SMS die markers are on there. Did they use the die for proofs as well, I've seen it on a graded business strike did they use the die on all three coin types? Report this Post to the Staff

Tjames88 Valued Member Canada 196 Posts	Posted 08/23/2023 9:10 pm The marks in the bays match as well I noticed with the better pictures a contact mark on the cheek. Then I noticed all of the sms coins have it as well. On mine though they look like extremely small scratches but in the same area. All of the coins have the same mark some worse than others but they are on the coin. Looks like damage though but probably why it came back as proof 68 Report this Post to the Staff

You have to go back and understand what happened, The production was very tide and Eva come with this idea to replace for 3 years collectors proof with SMS. After the 64 proof production resumed, proof Dies one of each denomination was use for the samples of SMS. (was 50 sets) So you has same Die as for proof but the differences are easy to spot: 1. Proof strike twice the SMS once. 2. The planchet was different polish. I hope this will help you.
