I liked this coin but can't quite figure out the toning. Might be the light the pictures were taken with. Looks like an EF40 to me. Two pretty good dings by Liberty's left shoulder and some chatter in the right field . Reverse has a couple of small rim hits and a pretty good ding at about 7:30. I still like the look of the coin. Hardly rare, although interesting as the final year of Seated Liberty. Opinions?

Agree EF-40 sharpness by today's standards (35 to me), but these surfaces are clearly not original. Pass.

Obv 35, rev 40, net 35 details, cleaned/retoned, not terrible, reverse even has a bit of color to it

The hits on the obverse at the right shoulder and the rim directly to the left (K11) as well as the hard hit left of the branch leaves make it a no-go for me. Reverse rims also have some odd issues.

Interesting die crack that runs through QUAR DOL and has a nice die chip in the O.

I like it. XF 40. Sure, it's a common date SLQ, but it's struck well, it's pretty, and there is a limited supply of nice SLQs, even 1891s.

While there's reason to suspect those surfaces, the pics aren't going to give you much clarity. You'd need to examine it under a scope.

Here's a guess that's consistent with what I see: someone tossed the coin into a beaker of warm acetone a few decades ago, and maybe put the beaker on a lab shaker set on low for a couple of hours. I've done this with silver coins that were so dirty that they would start to corrode if left to sit.

Another guess: it would straight grade.

I notice that all the coins this guy takes pictures of have this brown tone. I'm thinking it may be lighting. Who knows? I've got a bid in on this - 30 day return if I win and don't like it in hand.

No harm in trying. You don't really stand to lose much with a 30 day policy.

Cleaned and retoned, but if you like it that's what counts.

Coin arrived today. I think it's a little bit better than the seller's pics. Definitely has a slight golden toning.
