Saw this coin today and it feels off in hand; but that may only be because it is a little smaller, thicker and more symmetrical than similar coins I have habdled.. Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Not really my area of expertise but those two test cuts look added on.

The "test cuts" look more to me like a brooch mount mark. Someone at some point, turned this coin into a pin.

@sap, any leads on the attribution? I can't make out enough of the legend besides the faint 'roma' at 12 o'clock on the reverse. 'rsatr' at 6 o'clock?

The type is P. Satrienus, 77 BC, she-wolf reverse. The question is authenticity. A coin that's been turned into jewellery is more than likely to have been a jewellery imitation to begin with, rather than a genuine coin. I can't tell if the "blobbiness" of the reverse is due to the soldering, or due to casting.

@sap...thank you! In hand, my feeling was it was a reproduction... I posted some better pictures of an 116-115 denarius on another thread... I believe it is authentic but if you wouldn't mind taking a look I'd appreciate it.

I'll look into your attribution for this coin... It was smaller than the typical 18-22 mm on republican denari

Looking at a few comps on mashops, I'm more convinced this coin is authentic, but very likely ex jewelry. The near perfect symmetry adds to this because the coin was likely filed down. I may consider it ... It's priced at about $60.
