Nick, I just went through 1 roll to see if there might be a Henning (no such luck). All were dated from 1939 to about 1955. None that I would call uncirculated. I have no idea why they saved these nickels, because they didn't save pennies (except some IHCs) and not that many dimes or quarters. Halves yes - quite a few.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I'm not that much into nickels, but 15 rolls that old I can be. It wouldn't take long at all to go through them.

I would enjoy every second looking through them as a chance to reconnect with my grandparents.

I would definitely look through them for errors and varieties. If you do decide to dump them, PM me.

Agreed, kind of like paying them respects and also having a window into their lives that many decades ago. I have coins from my grandparents through my parents, who gave them to me as an heirloom.

If all these 5 cent coins were in circulation, then perhaps there is nothing good there. I am a pessimist and I think that the chance of finding something really valuable is close to zero. Perhaps you really should open these rolls, view them and then put them aside and sort them. Even if you don't find anything, you can put them in an album and it will be a memorable album for you.

Even something mundane like a Large S 1941-S in AU grade could be worth $30-40. I would search the rolls for the basic varieties.

Also, it should go without saying, but check all those nickels for Full Steps. Some of those year and mint combinations have very limited populations of 5FS/6FS nickels worth a sizable chunk of money.

Not sure how I missed this post the first time... you would actually be crazy NOT to go through them coin-by-coin... There could be a 1939 Doubled Monticello and Five Cents in there for all you know... or 39-Ds, 50-Ds, or other key and semi-key dates... lots of nickels worth saving during that time frame with absolutely no silver in them.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
