Ok, I was rummaging through some inheritance stuff and came across this strong box with 15 rolls of Jefferson nickels stashed away by my grandparents in the '40s - '50s. Would it really be worth my time to go through them coin-by-coin, as I really have no interest in Jeffersons? The likelihood of there being a Henning in there is miniscule, as they lived in far south Louisiana. My inclination is to deposit them at the bank. Your thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated. Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

If I lived close to you, I'd buy them off of you ;-)

They're just nickels. Who cares about nickels?

Perhaps no Henning nickels but certainly silver ones!

If it were me, I'd search them. Who knows what you may find. Silver War Nickels, OMM's , '42 horizontal D, 46 D over inverted D, 50 D, etc...

There are plenty of nickel CRH folks here. I would search them.

Definitely go though them. It's only 15 rolls. Shouldn't take too long. Just one keeper is worth the time.

I'd search them also. If they are as old as you say they are, there might be some wartime silver examples, as well as a few '38 and '39 pieces. Possibly even the '50 D.
Or, just dump 'em and let someone else have the fun.

@hondo, looks like there might be a couple pen knives in there plus a gold-colored item that is too over-exposed in this picture for me to identify. Care to dish the tea on that last token/coin?

Ok nice—thx for following up with the further explanation and pics. It is always fun to dig around in these sorts of treasure boxes.

I'm 99% sure that there are no War Nickels in the rolls, as there were several rolls of them in a different box with all of the Walkers and Franklins.

if the war nicks have been removed, what's to say these were not sorted out of circulated many decades after the '40s and '50s? the percentage of AU and Unc examples will reveal how long they've been sitting in rolls
