I don't know this series well enough to comment on the grade...but I'm not sure I've seen this type of toning before? I'm sure I'm wrong...just looking fwd to what the experts have to say so I can learn. We miss you fortcollins  smat

Nice example. I've seen similar toning on Buffalo nickels stored undisturbed in old Whitman folders for many, many decades. Not that common, but have seen several.

just looking at the reverse color transitions, they are so gradual. you typically don't see that on AT coins. I found several buffs with similar toning. maybe someone more versed in toning will chime in.
a few scratches on the buff. weak reverse with probably some die polishing going on. MS66+ range

Angel Dee's, a dealer in Virginia sold one of the finest toned buffalo sets a few years ago. That set can be seen pictured in its entirety in the link below. I think the difference I see is that the uniform luster looks different in these coins. That could be a function of having a different lighting setup but there still appears to be a difference in the quality of the surface luster. The Angel Dee's set sold for $830,000 in December 2016.

thanks for the link numismatic student. some amazing examples there. also. comparing the OPS coins to these I'm finding a several that have basically the same toning transitions. I'm sticking with my original thoughts on these that the toning is natural.
