Hello,

I found this Arizona quarter in my coin collection and I noticed that it looks like the mountain lines extend into the "Grand Canyon State" banner (noted by blue arrow in photo). There also seems to be a die mark by the S in state (noted by other blue arrow).

Are the extended line die errors or scratches? Also, what about the die mark?

Thank you!

@kai, first welcome to CCF. Second, while this closeup is great, it would also help to see overall images of the coin. Please add them to this thread. Thx.

To CCF! We'll need images that aren't too zoomed in.

These are from the PCGS reference images for a 2008-P Arizona State Quarter. Neither feature seems to appear.

The line near State seems to be a die gouge or dent. I'm really not sure what the feature near Canyon could be. The image is very pixelized, and that can make it harder to see if things are raised or incuse. Particularly on this text, since the banner is raised and the text is incuse.

Is it possible to use a memory card or USB cable to acquire an image directly from the microscope? I think that might be much clearer to see the features.

It isn't out of the question that this could be some kind of real doubling. The word canyon is right along the vertical centerline, and fairly close to the horizontal center. The interaction with the raised banner would cause some questions. The only entries on Wexler's doubled dies is for two doubled cacti.

kai098,
to CCF. I think it is PMD. Also,it looks like your close up is a photo of your scopes screen? If so,please do not post photos of the screen, use a memory card in the scope. If you have a cell phone look here: http://goccf.com/t/422658
The better the pics you post the better we can help you.
