It used to be easy to spot the fakes, either copper plated or altered 1948's. Now there are tons of Chinese counterfeits that are the correct weight and composition. This one doesn't look right to my untrained eye, but by all means have it looked at.

A typical copper Lincoln Wheat cent is 3.11g.

A 1943 steel cent is 2.7g.

If you have a genuine 1943 copper cent with the correct weight, then congratulations, you (maybe) just won the lottery. They sell for anywhere between $250,000 to $1,000,000.

The odds seem much stronger that it is a copper plated steel penny, or a Chinese fake. Good luck!

I will say, it doesn't look like a scraped off 1948. My guess is Chinese fake.
