kbbpll Our ground is kind to silvers - sandy/loamy. Same day as this find I pulled a 1905-O (micro) Barber dime that looked like it came out of a coin jar and a 1927 Merc FBL that looks like it came out of a Fed bag. Both encrusted with sand that fell off in a 30 second distilled soak. You may have seen this thread but if not, here is a 1929 Walking Half I took start to finish on my own. http://goccf.com/t/443916 But if there is potential value involved, I'll let a TPG 'conserve' it and then they can DETAILS their own work. |

I like the coin as is. PCGS sometimes does good work on restoration, but your coin does not need any additional work as it looks original. Do not let PCGS mess with the coin as you may be sorry. Just send it in for grading. The areas that could get a ED details grade are the beads above Liberty's head, knee and the rim around the date. The acetone soak did an amazing job. Congratulations on a wonderful dig find.

After Slider's post I cracked open the box and inserted a regular submission form. I agree with everyone. I don't think there is anything PCGS could do further that I could not do myself. As others have mentioned, little concerned with ED/Details because of knees. However, looking at all straight grade pics on PCGS, knees look iffy on most. Don't know the denomination well enough to comment further.
Will update on grading once received.
