I see a small dent from circulation damage... why do you think this is a staple? And where do you believe they're using such tiny staples?

The shape looks like a small staple, but combined with the gouge in would appear that this coin took a hit and created a furrow and a small mound.

So far it just looks like circulaion damage to me.

Yes it looks interesting, but is not a staple, just the "smushed" metal from a small circulation ding. You could confirm by checking with a magnet, since staples are made from steel.

I agree, just a circulation ding that caused the metal to get pushed and piled up. PMD.
