I started German this semester and asked the professor about purchasing any old German coins from any era and he gave me this one site that is near me. I want to buy a silver Reichsmark coin, (Jewish so don't worry I'm not glorifying anything) but I heard they're illegal to own in Germany and I'm not sure if that's also the case in the US; specifically California.

Jasian1001, as far as I know there are no prohibitions on owning German coins in the US despite whatever crooked cross symbols are on them.
Edit: the swastika was used as a lucky symbol before being subverted. There are MANY US tokens which display them. Here is one example.

I can tell you that silver Reichsmark coins are not illegal to own, buy, or sell in Germany. I have seen them displayed in shop windows in Munich. Certainly not in the USA!

There are no laws proscribing the owning or buying of any coins in the United States.

There may be laws, especially local laws and ordinances, prohibiting the open display of Nazi memorabilia, but simply owning them isn't illegal. Enforcing an outright ban on sale or ownership of Nazi coins in the US would certainly be problematic, not least because of the large number of WWII veterans who souvenired a Nazi coin as a war trophy during their time in Germany. And there may be restrictions on import of certain coins (particularly ancient coins; I don't think there's currently any restriction on importing Nazi coins) into the United States. But if a coin is already in the United States, it can be offered for sale there without restriction.

The law in Germany prohibits the "open display" of the swastika. For coin dealers, so long as the Nazi coins are placed swastika-side-down in the display case, it's legal.

Not an expert in legal issues both in US or Germany but old type Third Reich 5 reichsmark big silver coins doesn't have any swastika.
Obverse design was changed in 1936 adding Nazi eagle, coins issued in 1935 and 1936 had an old Weimar type eagle.
Maybe it could be a 100% legal option?
