1998 Proof Penny Defects - Coin Community Forum

techbob New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 09/13/2023 02:10 am I have the following sealed 1998 proof penny that has breaks on the #1 column at the top that extends into the architrave (horizontal component that the column rest on) and a chip out of the #7 column. Any additional value as it is a proof coin with defects? Your thoughts on this coin are appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

Petespockets55 Pillar of the Community United States 5828 Posts	Posted 09/13/2023 04:37 am Two things seem like a possibility. 1)Damage from a hit at the mint 2)Excess "debris" at the mint filled that portion of the die and kept metal from flowing into that area. I wouldn't expect either to have any extra value. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow. Report this Post to the Staff
