Another beautiful coin from the US Mint. From US MINT: "Released on May 6, 1991, this silver dollar commemorated the thirty-eighth anniversary of the ending of the Korean War and in honor of those who served."

Designers:
Obverse - John Mercanti
Reverse - James Ferrell

Mintage: 618,488

Presentation is a little odd to me. The felt presentation box measures 5 1/2" x 3 3/4". Very impressive but I wonder why such a large box. It opens much like the boxes used for medals of war. Other commems I have use a smaller, square box.

Commems always has an impressive write-up: http://goccf.com/t/430089

I collect some of the modern commemoratives, and none of the classic ones, and this is one of those I do have. Thank you for sharing. The mint did tend to use the larger boxes during that period of time.

Nice Modern Commemoratives Shown Mike.....

My Father served in the Korean Conflict 1951-1953, Gave it to Him in 1991, It was Special.... 40 Years Later...

I Too collected these They in Silver are Attractive and Affordable, The Designs are Lacking, IMO, Small Fine Details, Gone........

Nothing Like the Classic Commemoratives , I Love Them Too.....Earlier, 1930's Especially

Well, I have to admit that I wasn't all that enthused about the commemoratives in my collection. That is until I started posting and reading your commentaries.

I recently bought the 2024 Handbook of United States Coins and was floored when I saw just how many commemoratives have been produced. I will be adding to my collection but only in a limited way. I'll be searching for the 1994 Vietnam Vets and POW coins. Who knows after that...
