Is it me or does the 4 look scratched off to make it into a 1911S?

For your convenience ....
Here is a close up

The verdict will probably come from those who can diagnose the 9

I just looked at a bunch of 1911-S pennies online and that is not one, unless their was a die variety.

Yes, it is a 1941-S not a 19 11-S

I am CHUCK FURJANIC, ANA LIFE MEMBER #1109 (1970) and contributor to the " Red Book" for 15 years. I am also a life member of Michigan State Numismatic Society, Central States, MANA, GENA and a member of some 30 other clubs and organizations

My problem is how someone like this could let an obviously altered coin go to auction?
Perhaps he has a poorly trained monkey doing his ebay listings while he is on the show circuit...

I asked the seller a question.

Dear chuck_furjanic_inc,

This is obviously an altered date 1941 S Lincoln Wheat cent. Perhaps it got
by you.

I emailed him as well asking him to take another look at it and maybe take better pics of it. Well it sold for $55 shipped, glad to see there is a 14 day return policy. Lets just hope the buyer catches this.

You could drive a truck through date!

I cannot get a clear image of the VDB that would be in place on a 1941-S (which was placed at the bust in 1918, where it has resided ever since).

An authentic 1911 would not have the VDB.

success,

I never got a reply from this upstanding seller with his arm long list of qualifying credentials.

Well it sold for $46.55

Maybe if the buyer was a member here they would have known better.
Interested in seeing the feedback on this lot.

I saw he is indeed a contributor to the Red Book in my 2009 edition amidst the others.
I wonder does anyone have a contact info for Ken Bressett?
Since the seller won't recognize my ebay message to him that it is altered, maybe Mr. Bressett can point this out to this contributor?

PM me if you have an email address for the people at the Whitman publishing or for K.B.
