I'm new to collecting Morgans, rookie.
I have been looking at a new find and it appears to have a couple of errors on the reverse but I cannot find information on them and was hoping someone would recognize them. Looks to me a crack allowed material to form a fine line around most of the edge lettering, am I seeing that right?

Welcome to the CCF, kwork! Yes, those are die cracks.

To CCF! Those are called Die Cracks. The Morgan dollars series were loaded with them.

Cracked almost all the way around, that didn't last much longer.

Thanks,

I checked the list and it looks like VAM 29 reverse coin image and the die chip on the one, what do you think, is it a match?

I have reviewed the VAM's and found a match with 29 although the cracks are slightly more advanced on my coin.
I matched the cracks on the reverse photo but the VAM is regarding doubling and position of the date so I just checked that and it looks like a match too, see photo.

Congrats, I believe you found it! And you are right, usually VAM identification is more about date or mintmark position, doubling, die clashes, die chips or gouges, etc. But having an exact match of the die cracks sure helps!
