I have a 1944 Red Wheat penny, it's not graded but it looks like at least AU. would anyone have an idea of it's worth or if I should have it graded? Thanks.

Hello —

It's hard for me to evaluate the coin from the pictures.

But if I assume that it hasn't been cleaned and that it has no wear (which are big assumptions that I am making for the sake of discussion), I would estimate that this would get at BEST a grade of MS65, with the biggest problems being the mark in front of Lincoln's face and the large mark under the E in CENT on the reverse.

I would expect to get less than $10 for this coin from a local dealer if it graded MS65 (which in my opinion is a best case scenario).

I'm not an expert, but I noticed that no one had answered yet so figured I'd give my casual, layperson's opinion.

I would not personally get this coin slabbed if it was mine.

Best of success to you in your coin interests.

Thank you. I really didn't think it would be worth getting it graded but I thought I'd get at least another opinion. Have a great night.

I agree. Definitely not worth getting it graded, as it's not worth much.

Varietyoflife,
As a general rule;a coin needs a retail value of at least $150 after slabbing to justify all costs involved in sending it in. The first think you need to do is grade a coin:https://www.pcgs.com/photograde/
Then look up the value:http://m.numismedia.com/rarecoinprices.htm
Also check ebay sold values. If the values justify the cost, then decide if you want to send it in. Not all coins need or should be slabbed.

Pics are soft, but the coin seems pretty baggy - perhaps MS-62.

Looks to be MS, around 63, very common coin.
