Ouch, you can tell he's a Newbie to the Hobby. He has the "all that glitters is Gold" phase in his blood which will eventually wear off as he gets more experience. I went through that stage also at the start of my collecting experience.
If you find any cleaned and really shiney coins with lots of tiny hairlines on 'em, I'm the guilty one!

Sorry if ya have one in your collection, I've stopped cleaning coins 25 years ago.................Glenn Pinto

yikes! I am guilty myself of cleaning coins but only if they were of very low value anyway and I didnt want to put a black coin into an album. So basically I have a few cleaned fillers. Funny how someone warned him not to clean and he answered back that silver cleaners are "harmless"

I actually like the dirt on pre-1937 silver coins. It highlights all the details and makes it much easier to read the dates and other mint markings.

One of the coin stores I go to sells silver cleaner. I was in there last time and someone bought some and I couldn't help but wince. It is a combined coin/jewlery store though, so maybe it was not for coins...
