I recently came into possession of a 2017 $20 bill. It was brought to my attention that the serial number appeared to be indented into the bill. Upon closer inspection I began to notice many other things that stood out. The ink didn't seem as crisply laid down onto the paper as the other bill I was using as a reference. I do not believe it to be counterfeit, though I have not had that verified. However I have inspected the bill to make sure it had all the qualities of a legitimate bill and everything seems to appear real and legitimate. My question is how would I know if this is worth anything and who would be the best people to talk to?

Steve is our go-to guy on notes. Let's wait for him to comment.

Welcome to CCF.
What you're describing is what collectors salivate over. The "indenting" you're describing is called embossing by our hobby, and collectors absolutely love it. As modern notes circulate, the embossing slowly subsides. It's very common on new or almost uncirculated notes.

So not an error but worth a slight premium Steve?

Sorry about the confusion. I was trying to describe the embossing as "normal" for a note in this condition and seeing that the centering is poor and the note has nothing else going for it, I'd say there's no premium whatsoever.
