Here's an interesting coin I picked up on Heritage several years ago. I was struck by how few examples of this coin had been graded Proof-69 (plus, it looked nice!) so I placed a bid and won it for $100. I expect it would easily sell for at least 3 times that figure if it were in a PCGS slab. The only other PR-69 example listed in Heritage's archives was an NGC-slabbed coin that went for $300 back in 2004.
I'm pretty sure PCGS would not grade it this high. In fact, I submitted it for PCGS crossover, specifying a minimum PR-68 grade, and they didn't cross it. However, I still toy with the notion of cracking the ICG slab and sending in the raw coin. It has some light toning streaks in the left obverse field, but I don't see any defects and there are practically no contact marks.
Any comments?
