I find myself quite intrigued by these coins, the smallest silver coin minted in the U.S. 1,458,000 for this year I believe. Quite a unique history these coins. Primarily struck for postage stamps if my history is accurate.

Anyways, a difficult coin to grade for my inexperience. The images are the best representations of what my eyes see. Only enhanced highlights and sharpness, brightness slightly.

I see worn rims on the opposite of obv. & rev. Obv. around 6k. Rev. at 6k with abrupt line about 5.5k. (?).
The rev. appears to have evidence of a clash of the obv. shield in the correct placement of III. Can anyone provide an overlay?
My rookie eye sees no obvious evidence of cleaning. Knowing type II issues exhibited weak strikes, could a tilted die explain the opposing weak rims and clash? Just wondering.
Hope the provided images allow a fair assessment Thanks for the gander.

Stars and date are a bit weak with wear.
VF-25 (fortunately, not holed ).

I also find this series somewhat intriguing, - I am a World collector ,- also collect British Maundy money. Have about 20 examples combined of American Nickel and silver trimes, as well as all denominations of Maundy money. About half of them are in lower grades and holed, as these were commonly used for jewelry.

In terms of mintage, Maundy money is much scarcer, but is issued on a yearly basis.

Cannot the opposing weak sides account for a tilted die? Can you please comment on the obvious clash marks?

I'll say VF-35 with a very low confidence factor.

one of the more challenging series to grade mainly due to how thin they are, strike seems to play a big role. the diamond and buttons are a key to determining wear as well as the the points of the stars to the shield which are higher set. in your photo the glare may be hiding it. you can see in the first obv photo that strike is not even where the top half is stronger than than the bottom half. glare is obscuring surface issues however there appears to be an excessive amount of marks and scratches on both sides.

barring the strike the coins devices are in the AU range I'm not seeing much wear on the diamond or buttons as well as the hight points on the star. because of the strike issues and all the marks, scuffs and scratches I would net at VF35 however the chances it would grade straight with some of the scratches is not that good

Won't straight grade with that reverse PMD, obverse also has some deep scratches.

These trimes are so thin that even without clashing there was still often times indirect transfer and that's what I think you are seeing in the III (die transfer from the obv horizontal shield-lines.)

Overall I'm at VF30 details

OK filler coin for the type until something better comes along.
