So I picked this up... It was just listed as an 1820 when I bought it online... the flip it came in has it listed as a n-9. I don't have a large cent variety book--i do want one. But holding off cause their spendy.. so I started looking around a bit online. I see an n-9 large date. Is there one for the small date and I'm just not finding it?

Not being an expert on Lg. Cent varieties I agree with N-9 . Yes there are about 8 varieties of the small date and 8 of the Lg. date.
Someone with more knowledge will probably chime in with more or better info.

Yes it is N-9.

The leaf point below S2 is slightly past center, that is only true on four varieties 2, 5 and 9,14 (both of these use the same reverse die)

On N-2 the point of leaf below the F is below the center of the upright, on the other two dies it is below the left edge of the upright. On the OP coin it is below the left edge, so N-2 is out.

On N-14 the 2 has a club top and not a curl. The OP coin has a curl top so N-14 is out. Thet leave N-5 and N-8.

On N-5 the T in LIBERTY is right down touching the hair below it, on N-9 it is clearly separated from the hair.On the OP coin it is clearly separated so it is N-9.

Condor. If I may ask what reference books do you use? Really badly need to invest in a good large cent book with that type of info... I'm up to maybe 40 large cents or so and googles not cutting it

Conder101 - I'm also watching RE: what reference, as I have a handful that I would like to learn how to attribute correctly.
