Seeking opinions on this old Indian head 5 cent coin. Has been stored in my collection since 1980s. Clean yet obviously worn. I kind of see some extra feathers on the top portion. Thoughts?

I can work on resizing some other photos if needed

@bsi, can you please add overall pics of the front and back of this coin to the thread? That can help us understand the close-ups. Thx.

With something this old and worn, it is not easy to know the one correct answer. Yes, it could be MD. To know if it is a doubled die, you would need to go to varietyvista.com and try to find a match...if it is there...and if it is possible with something worn like this. Since you do not know the date, you would have to go through all of the DDO listings at the site and try to find a best match.

I also hope a Buffalo nickel person will pop in here b/c I know there are design details that can help narrow the date, but I cannot remember them off the top of my head.

The date can be see using Nic-A-Date, but that also makes it a damaged coin.

Something I have not tired in decades, but was shown once by a friend: Lay the nickel onto a flat surface and overtp of it lay a polarized filter for an old 35mm camera. That can sometimes allow you to see the date.

I also do not know if someone would pay a premium for a dateless Buffalo nickel either.

I looked through the site variations. True it is that my coin is worn so much it is difficult to judge. One thing I could notice is the hair ribbon. Based on it, the coin appears to be a 1920 or 1924. No examples were provided on those years for other issues. Any experts out there?
