Hello my fellow polish coin enthusiasts!

I recently graded this coin. Any idea of its value according to rarity/condition? Couldn't find this exact piece for sale anywhere.

Really appreciate your time and help!

@coin, that seems to be a really nice piece. Since it dates to before 1600, I'm going to move your thread over to the medieval and ancient subsection of CCF.

In terms of value, in looking on ma-shops, I'm seeing a few similar pieces priced at between $150 and $250 (USD). Here is a link to help you perform your own research:

Thank you @Spence!

Indeed, some 3 Groschen go for these prices. Though I am yet to see this iteration of the Posen mint out there. Would be great if this post gets to some Polish coin enthusiasts, I know they are out here :D

Kind regards,

I always meant to pick up Gumowski or that (somewhat) recent Spink reference on Polish coins, but never saw a good opportunity.

I'm sure there are some people here who specialize in that area of Europe.

Lovely early Sigismund trojak!

Incorrectly attributed by NGC. It should be Olkusz mint, not Poznan. Iger O.88.8b.

I will see if I can find an auction result. I think @spence has probably got the price range correct.

Edit:
Lower grade: https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?lot...lot&sid=2791
Comparable?: https://wcn.pl/archive/184766?q=trojak+1588+Olkusz

So, the value is probably at the high end of the range given previously, maybe $250 or even a bit higher? It's a good strike, strong portrait, almost no weak areas at all. Very attractive example, and 1588s are less common than later dates.

Thank you Tdziemia and Samoth!

Great information indeed, and great to hear of expert knowlegde. Is there a specific auction house you recommend? Not sure where I could reach a good price for it.

Kind regards,
Madalin

In my opinion you will get the best price selling it through one of the the large Polish auction houses, where there is highest demand for high grade trojaks:
Warszawskie Centrum Numizmatyczne(WCN): https://www.wcn.pl
MIchal Niemczyk: https://www.niemczyk.pl
Gabinet Numizmatyczne Damian Marciniak: https://www.facebook.com/MarciniakAukcje/
Salon Numizmatczny Mateusz Wojcicki (SNMW): https://www.snmw.pl

Niemczyk sells a lot of slabbed trojaks. WCN sells mostly raw coins. I have done a lot of business (buying) with WCN and I like them. They have the lowest selling fee on the buying side (12%), so maybe the fees for sellers are also low?
But if a buyer is trying to fill a hole in their trojak collection with a high grade coin, they are probably shopping the Niemczyk auctions.

I hope that helps, and good luck.
